Acne and Blemish Control

Acne and Blemish can appear in many different forms such as whiteheads, pustules, papules, blackheads and cysts. Since most acne can be an embarrassing condition and can affect the quality of life of its sufferer, there are strategies that can help relieve and eliminate acne and blemishes from the face.

    Cleansing Correctly

  1. Correctly cleansing the skin can help you avoid unnecessary irritation, inflammation and the creation of more breakouts. There are a variety of soaps and cleansers on the market, many of which are supposedly formulated to treat acne and oily skin. Unfortunately, these soaps can cause the skin to become too dry and irritated due to the presence of harsh chemical ingredients. Replace these types of soaps with one that is designed for sensitive skin. Soaps and cleansers for sensitive skin will both soothe the skin and clean it thoroughly, without irritating it.
  2. Medicating Correctly

  3. Medicating the skin to treat acne involves using a benzoyl peroxide cream that will clear up acne without harming the skin. There are a few strengths of benzoyl peroxide on the market, typically a 2.5 percent, 5 percent and 10 percent concentration. Using concentrations higher than 2.5 percent can cause redness and peeling of the skin, which can make treatment difficult and painful. It is more effective to use a 2.5 percent concentration, which will clear the skin just as effectively without irritation. If the benzoyl peroxide cream you are using does not say what the concentration is, consider switching to a brand that does, as the concentration can affect how well it will clear the skin without causing irritation. Use a quarter-sized amount, and massage it onto the skin very gently until it dries.
  4. Moisturizing Correctly

  5. Benzoyl peroxide creams can be drying when used on their own. That is why it is important to use an oil-free moisturizer after the benzoyl peroxide cream dries. Choosing an oil-free variety of moisturizer will keep the skin hydrated without reclogging the skin with heavy oils or creams. Avoid using a moisturizer that is formulated for getting rid of wrinkles or acne, as these lotions will generally be too strong for the skin and may interact poorly with the benzoyl peroxide cream. Look for an oil-free lotion or moisturizer that is designed for sensitive skin types to ensure it will not irritate the skin.
